Ventilation Helps Us Improve Sleep Quality

After work, we spend about 10 hours or more at home. IAQ is also very important to our home, especially to a big part in these 10 hours, sleep. Sleep quality is very important to our productivity and immune ability.

Three factors are temperature, humidity and CO2 concentration. Let’s take a look at the most important of them, CO2 concentration:

For any subject without ventilation (natural or mechanical), the CO2 concentration is very high, ranging from 1600-3900ppm. In such condition, the human body is very hard to rest properly.

Results to this experiment are as below:

Ventilation helps us improve sleep quality3

 “It’s shown that:

a) Subjects reported that the bedroom air was fresher.

b) Sleep quality improved.

c) Responses on the Groningen Sleep Quality scale improved.

d) Subjects felt better next day, less sleepy, and more able to concentrate.

e) Subjects’ performance of a test of logical thinking improved.”

Concluding with the previous articles, benefits from a higher IAQ is much more valuable, comparing to the cost and impact of increasing it. New building construction should include ERVs and systems that can provide modifiable ventilation rates depending on outdoor air conditions.
