Sales of air handling units in Germany  in the first half of 2012 totaled €264 million compared with €244 million for the same period in 2011.

According to a survey of members of the trade association for air systems. In terms of numbers, production went up from 19,000 units to 23,000 in 2012. The proportion of units with built-in heat recovery modules was 60%.

Chinese New Green Settlements Standards

China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization announced, the GREEN SETTLEMENTS STANDARDS CECS377:2014 will be put into effect from Oct 1, 2014 after its publication on Jun 19, 2014, which is edited and examined by Environmental Committee of China Real Estate Research.

The standards have been compiled lasted eight years and become the first industry standards association of green residential construction in China. They combine the international advanced green building evaluation system with the local urban construction and real estate development mode, filling the blank of Chinese green settlement standards, and motivating the practice.

The standards conclude 9 chapters, such as the general terms, glossary, construction site integration, regional value, traffic effectiveness, humanistic harmonious habitations, resources and energy resources utility, comfortable environment, sustainable settlements management, etc.. They cover living surroundings, natural source usage, open district, pedestrian traffic, commerce block site and so on, aiming at planting the sustainable development concept in the project development and management, to ensure the citizen is living in a clean, beautiful, convenient, multifunctional, green and harmonious community.

The standards will come into force on Oct. 10, 2014. They have the innovation to extend the study and evaluation field from green building to green settlements. They apply not only to new town settlements, eco-city construction and industrial park construction, but also has a positive role in guiding the rebuilding of the town and green eco building projects of small towns.

Energy recovery ventilation becomes important in household

Compared to public concern for urban air quality, indoor air quality is not being taken seriously. In fact, for most people, almost 80 percent of the time spend indoors. An expert said, large particles can be isolated by the network window, but PM2.5 and below particles can easily enter the indoor, it’s stability strong, not easy to settle to the ground, it can stay for days or even dozens of days in indoor air.

Health is the first element of life, becoming one of main factors to consider when buying residential, residential minimum requirements should greatly reduce the possibility of health into the interior of PM2.5, good ventilation equipment installation performance , able to indoor pollutants discharged outdoors. Especially for high air tightness and well insulated buildings, ventilation system become a must. For polluted areas, the high efficient air inlet filter is necessary to stop the air pollution outside, to ensure access to the indoor air is truly fresh air.

According to statistics, Energy recovery ventilator(ERV) in Europe and home penetration has reached 96.56%, In the United States , Japan, Britain and other developed countries , the industry in the proportion of GDP reached 2.7%. But currently in China is just in its infancy. According to the latest report Navigant research institutions, ERV global market revenues will grow from $ 1.6 billion in 2014 to $ 2.8 billion in 2020.

Considering its advantages of improving indoor air quality while reducing energy consumption, ERV has become more and more popular in household.

ERVs Working Principle

A balanced heat & energy recovery ventilation system works by continuously extracting air from the wet rooms within your property (e.g. kitchens and bathrooms) and simultaneously pulling in fresh air from outside which is filtered, introduced and extracted via a network of ducting.

The heat from the extracted stale air is drawn through an air-to-air heat exchanger located within the heat & energy recovery ventilation unit itself and is used to warm the incoming fresh filtered air for the habitable rooms in your property such as living rooms and bedrooms. In some cases around 96% of the heat generated within your property can be retained.

The system is designed to work continuously on trickle and can be boosted manually or automatically when higher levels of moisture are present (.e.g. when cooking and bathing). Some systems also offer a summer bypass facility ( also called night free cooling ) which normally activates during the summer months and allows the heat to exit the property without passing through the air heat exchanger. Depending on the unit specification, this feature can be controlled automatically or via a manual switch. HOLTP offer numerous control options, download our ERV brochure now to find out more.

There are numerous ways in which to enhance your ERVs system by adding an additional heat source to lift the temperature of the incoming air, and also cooling devices to provide an air tempering provision.

European Union enact new energy target

Because the crisis of Ukraine importing gas form Russia recently, the European Union enact a new energy target on 23rd July, aiming to reduce the energy consumption by 30% till 2030. According to this target, the whole European Union will benefit from the positive effects.

EU climate commissioner Connie said that this action could reduce the EU's dependence on importing natural gas and fossil fuels from Russia and other countries. She also said that energy conservation measures are not only the good news for climate and investment, but also good news for Europe's energy security and independence.

Currently, the EU spends more than 400 billion euros in importing fossil fuels, among these a large portion are from Russia. The European Commission’s calculations show that every 1% of the energy savings, the EU will be able to reduce gas imports by 2.6%.

Due to the high dependence on imported energy, EU leaders pay serious attention to the development of new energy and climate strategy. In the recently concluded EU Summer summit meeting, EU leaders put forward that in the coming 5 years they will enact the new energy and climate strategy, and the purpose is in order to avoid highly dependent on fossil fuels and natural gas import.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the EU leaders said because of the geopolitical events, and the impact of climate change on a global scale energy competition has forced the EU to rethink energy and climate strategy. To ensure energy security, the EU's goal is to establish an "affordable, safe and sustainable" energy alliance.

Over the next five years, the EU's energy and climate strategy will focus on three aspects: First, the development of enterprises and the public affordable energy, specific work includes improving energy efficiency to reduce energy demand, the establishment of an integrated energy market, strengthen the bargaining power of the European Union etc. Second, ensure energy security and accelerate the diversification of energy supply and paths. Third, develop green energy to slow down the global warming.

In January 2014, the European Commission proposed in the "2030 Climate and Energy Framework" that in 2030, greenhouse gas emissions reduced by 40%, renewable energy increased by at least 27%. However, the commission didn’t set targets for energy efficiency. The new proposed energy efficiency goal is the improvement to above framework.

European Union invest one billion Euro in clean energy

According to the European Commission announcement, in order to develop more ways to handle the global climate change, they are going to invest one billion Euro in 18 innovative renewable energy projects and one “capture and seal up CO2” project. Above projects range from bio-energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, wind energy, ocean energy, smart grid and also “capture and seal up CO2” technology, among all the projects “capture and seal up CO2” is the first time to be selected. According to prediction of European Union, accompany with the projects carried out, the renewable energy will be increased by 8 terawatt hours (1 terawatt hour = 1 billion kilowatt hour) which is equal to the total annual power consumption of Cyprus and Malta.

It is said that in these projects more than 0.9 billion Euro private fund was brought in, this means near 2 billion Euro was invested in above second round NER300 investment plan. European Union hope under above projects help, the renewable energy and “capture and seal up CO2” technology can grow fast. In the first round investment in December, 2012, near 1.2 billion Euro was applied in 23 renewable energy projects. The European Union said “as the innovated low carbon energy financing projects, the NER300 fund comes from revenue by selling carbon emission quotas in European carbon emission trading system, this trading system aims the polluters pay the bill themselves and become the main power to develop the low carbon economy”.

European will tighten the eco design requirements for energy-related products in 2015

In order to reduce energy consumption, reduce negative environmental impacts and aiming at decrease CO2 emissions. Europe enact a new regulation named ERP2015 to minimum efficiency rating for fans in EU, the regulation will be mandatory for all 27 EU countries about fans being sold or imported, this regulation is also applied to any other machine which are fans integrated as the components.

Begin in January 2015, Fans of all type including axial fans, centrifugal fans with forward or backward curved blades, cross-flow and diagonal fans which power is between 0.125kW and 500kW are affected, this means in the European countries, nearly all the AC fans will be weeded out because of this ERP2015 regulation, instead, DC or EC fans which has green technology will be the new choice. Thanks for the R&D department, Holtop now is replacing its hot sale product range like XHBQ-TP units to be EC fan, in the coming months in 2014 our units will be ERP2015 compliant.

Below is the guidance according to ERP2015 regulation:

Germany’s updated ENER standards

According to the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), the updated, stricter version of the German Energy Saving Building Regulation (EnEV) of May 2014/1/ become the most important regulation in Germany. It ensures the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) is complied with.

The EPBD stipulates that from 2021 all new residential and non-residential buildings may only be constructed as nearly zero-energy buildings, In addition, the EnEV contains the provisions to ensure building shells are in high quality. It specifies requirement for wall, ceiling and floor insulation, minimum window quality and high air tightness, technical systems as little energy as possible, where concerns on minimum efficiency value for heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning system. Take the ventilation systems for instant, for airflow of 2000m3/h, there is regulation that a heat recovery system must be used, as well as provisions on the maximum power consumption of the heat recovery ventilators.

From 2016, the maximum energy consumption for buildings will be 25% less than what it is at the moment.

HEALTH AND ENERGY-SAVING

he indoor air pollutants can effect your health seriously

In the modern architecture, as the widespread use of air conditioning, the buildings become more and more tight in order to save the energy. The natural air exchange rate in the modern building has reduced significantly.

It is harmful to the health of human if the air is too dreggy. In 1980, the World Health Organization officially named the diseases as “Sick Building Syndrome” which are caused by insufficient fresh air in the air conditioners, widely known as “air conditioning sickness”.

Dilemma between ventilation and energy consumption

  • To increase the fresh air is a good way to improve the air quality, but at the same time the energy consumption rises dramatically;
  • The energy consumption of HVAC takes up over 60% of the building energy consumption;
  • As to the public buildings, to condition 1 m3/h fresh airflow needs to consume about 9.5 kw.h energy in the whole summer.

Solution

Holtop heat & energy recovery ventilator can expel the stale air indoor out of room, meanwhile supplying the fresh air outside into the room, by using the advanced heat/energy recovering technology, the energy can exchange taking advantage of the difference of the temperature and humidity between indoor and outdoor air. By this means, it can not only smooth away the problem of indoor pollution, but also the dilemma between ventilation and energy-saving.

Heat recovery ventilation system development in China

There are two ways to improve air quality, one is by reducing the public pollution, another is by increasing the personal indoor air quality. In China, government pays attention to the prior solution and achieves very good effect, however, for personal indoor air quality, people pay seldom attention on this.

In fact, since the SARS in 2003, heat recovery ventilation system was welcome shortly, but accompany with disease’s leaving, this kind of system forgotten by people slowly. From 2010, Because of the Chinese real estate market rapid development, more and more people invest in the high end living building and heat recovery ventilation system returns to the public view.

PM2.5, a special index which means how serious the air is polluted is getting very hot in China, Beijing, capital of China who with high PM2.5 is even considered to be a city no suitable for human living in. PM2.5 is known as the respirable suspended particulates which is harmful for human, it will cause respiratory diseases and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases very easily. In the past, air pollutant in Beijing is normally above 100μm, but these years the pollutant is getting smaller and smaller, when pollutant diameter is smaller than 2.5μm then we call it PM2.5 and they can enter our respiratory tract and precipitate inside the pulmonary alveoli.

“A healthy flat should have very seldom PM2.5 pollutant inside, this means we need to have a high efficiency air filter in our ventilation system unit” residential building expert said.

“Besides the high efficiency air filter is important, energy saving is also important” Mr. Hou said, this means when we using a ventilation system we’d better have it built in the heat recovery function, in this way it will not be the burden for a family power consumption.

According to the research, in European families ventilation system popularizing rate is more than 96.56%, In UK, Japan and America, gross value of ventilation system production even occupy more than 2.7% of the GDP value.

High purification energy recovery ventilator flights with haze weather

In recent years, the country 's air pollution increasing seriously. In July, air quality status display, proportion of the number of days in Beijing, Tianjin and 13 urban air quality standards between 25.8% ~ 96.8% , average of 42.6% , lower than the average number of days 74 cities standard proportion 30.5 percent. That means, the average number of days exceeding the ratio of 57.4%, the ratio of severe pollution is higher than 74 cities 4.4 percentage. The main pollution is PM2.5, followed by 0.3.

Compared to last year , the average of the proportion in standard 13 cities of Beijing, Tianjin region fell by 48.6 percent to 42.6 percent , 6.0 percentage points lower, the air quality has declined. Six monitoring indicators , PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations increased by 10.1% and 1.7%, SO2 and NO2 concentrations decreased 14.3% and 2.9% respectively , CO daily average exceeded the average rate unchanged , in 3rd of this month, maximum 8 hours exceeded the rate of increase in the average value 13.2 percentage points.

Holtop energy recovery ventilator is equipped with PM2.5 filter, which can filtrate over 96% PM2.5, therefore, it’s more wise to use energy recovery ventilator to fresh the air than just open the windows. Besides, it can reduce the air conditioning load.

How can I improve my indoor air quality?

There are some basic strategies for outsmarting indoor air pollution:
Eliminate
The first step toward better indoor air is to identify the sources of air pollutants and remove as many as possible from your home. You can decrease the amount of dust and dirt in your home by cleaning and vacuuming at least once a week. You should also regularly wash bed linens and stuffed toys. If someone in your family is sensitive to fumes, you should safely store household products and use them only when necessary. If you need help determining if you have a problem with pollutants, contact your local HOLTOP dealer to evaluate your home and indoor comfort system.
Ventilate
Today's modern homes are well insulated and sealed to conserve energy, which means airborne pollutants have no way to escape. Holtop ventilation systems help remove allergy-aggravating particles and germs by exchanging stale, recirculated indoor air with fresh, filtered outside air.
Clean
Holtop air purification system goes a step further; it removes particles, germs and odors, and it destroys chemical vapors.
Monitor
Improper humidity levels and high temperatures can actually increase concentrations of particles and germs. Holtop intelligent controller regulates moisture levels and temperatures to improve indoor air quality and enhance comfort. To determine which indoor air quality system best meets your needs, contact your local HOLTOP Dealer.

How to choose HRV and ERV

HRV means heat recovery ventilator which is a system that built in heat exchanger (normally made by aluminum), this kind of system can expel the indoor stale air and at the same time to use the heat/cool from stale air to pre-heat/pre-cool the incoming fresh air, in this way to reduce indoor heating/cooling device energy consumption from heating up or cooling down the fresh air to the ambient indoor temperature.

ERV means energy recovery ventilator which is a new generation system that built in enthalpy exchanger (normally made by paper), ERV system has same like function of HRV and at the same time it can recover latent heat (humidity) from stale air as well. At the same time, ERV always tends to keep the same indoor humidity so people indoor feel soft and not effected by high/low humidity from fresh air.

How to choose HRV and ERV is based on the climate and what heating/cooling device you have.

1. User have cooling device in Summer and the humidity outdoor is too high then ERV is suitable in this situation, because under the cooling device indoor temperature is low and at the same time humidity is soft ( A/C will expel indoor humidity because of the condensate water), with the ERV it can expel indoor stale air, pre-cool the fresh air and also expel the humidity in fresh air before entering house.

2. User have heating device in Winter and at the same time indoor humidity is too high but outdoor humidity is soft, then HRV is suitable in this situation, because HRV can pre-heat the fresh air, at the same time can expel the high humidity indoor air to outside and bring in outdoor fresh air with soft humidity (without latent heat exchange). On the contrary, if the indoor humidity is soft already and the outdoor fresh air is too dry or too humid, then ERV is the one user should choose.

So, choosing an HRV or ERV is important based on different indoor/outdoor humidity and also the climate, if you are still confused then we welcome you contact Holtop via email info@holtop.comfor help.

Holtop are pleased to provide OEM service of HRV and ERV

China is becoming the production base for global customers. The export of HVAC system in China are growing rapidly in the last few year. The export was 9.448 million in 2009; and increased to 12.685 million in 2010 and reached 22.3 million in 2011.

Under this background, more and more AC manufacturers are seeking chance to reduce their production costs and stocks. In the sector of heat and energy recovery ventilation, since they’re slave products to air conditioners, OEM service may be a better choice for them to complete their product range quickly, rather than add new production lines and facilities to produce them.

Passive house is the future development direction in China

"Passive house" means cooling and heating in the greatest extent possible to avoid the use of traditional fossil fuels. Relying on self-generated energy from building and the rational use of renewable energy, we meet the house comfortable indoor climate requirements. These are achieved mainly by high heat insulation, sealing strong architectural facades and renewable energy implementation.

It is reported that passive house come up from Frankfurt, Germany in 1991, as the low energy consumption and high comfort energy-efficient buildings, passive houses have been rapidly promoted and widely used around the world (particularly in Germany). Generally, energy consumption of passive houses is up to 90% lower than ordinary buildings. This means people can reduce energy consumption for heating and hot water to zero or near zero.

According to the relevant information, China's annual construction area occupied more than 50% of the world, from the research it shows Chinese construction has reached more than 46 billion square meters, however, these houses are mostly non-energy-efficient buildings, they are wasting resource and also polluting the environment.

During the “Eagle PASSIVE house windows” meeting, Zhang Xiaoling said that the construction of passive houses is one of the most important ways to alleviate energy consumption and reduce the carbon dioxide emission. It plays an important role to reduce air pollution. She believes that the construction of passive houses match the interests of all parties.

Resident is the first party who benefit from passive houses, living in a passive house is comfortable without PM2.5 influence. Because of the high housing cost and additional value, real estate developers are the second party who benefit from passive house. For country, because of the advanced of features of passive house, energy consumption of heating saved, then public expenditure saved. For human beings, passive houses contribute to reducing greenhouse gas, reducing haze and the urban heat island effect. Under this we can leave the energy and resources to our kids and future generations.

Some Knowledge of Radiator

Radiator is a heating device, at the same time it is also a water container with hot water flow inside the pipe. When choosing the radiator, we always hear some proper nouns about the radiator pressure, such as working pressure, test pressure, system pressure, etc. The pressures will have their own corresponding parameters. For people who lack of HVAC knowledge, these related pressure parameters are like hieroglyphics, people never understand. Here let’s learn together to understand the knowledge.

Working pressure refers to the maximum allowable operating pressure of the radiator. Unit of measurement is MPA. Under normal circumstances, steel radiator working pressure is 0.8mpa, copper and aluminum composite radiator working pressure 1.0mpa.

Test pressure is the necessary technical requirement to test the radiator air tightness and strength, normally 1.2-1.5 times of the working pressure, for example in China, radiator tightness test value is 1.8mpa for manufacturers during production process, after the pressure reaches a stable value for one minute without welding deformation and no leakage then it is qualified.

Heating system pressure is generally in 0.4mpa, radiator installation tightness test should be carried out after the completion, pressure drop should not exceed 0.05mpa in 10 minutes, indoor heating systems stop pressing time is 5 minutes, pressure drop should not more than 0.02mpa. The inspection should be focused on pipes connecting, radiator connecting and also valve connecting.

From the above analysis, we can see clearly that radiator test pressure is larger than the working pressure, and working pressure is larger than the system pressure. So, if the radiator manufacturer can follow this way to choose materials, be strict to production processes, radiator compressive property will be guaranteed and have very small chance of bursting during daily use.

VRF Market Analysis

VRF, which has achieved successful sales in the past, affected by the gloomy economic, showed negative growth in its major market for the first time.

The followings are the situation of VRF in the world markets.

The European VRF market has increased by 4.4%* year on year. And in the United States market, which is catching eyes from worldwide, indicating an 8.6% growth rate, but this growth cannot reach the expectation owing to the reduced governmental budget. In the US market, Mini-VRFs accounted for 30% of all VRFs, indicating greater demand as replacement of chillers in light commercial applications. With their technology, VRF systems are expanding their application in various places. Nonetheless, VRF still accounts for only about 5% of the U.S. commercial air conditioner market.

In Latin American, VRF market fell on the whole. Among the product, Heat pump types dominated the market. Brazil maintained its position as Latin America's largest VRF market, followed by Mexico and Argentina.

Let's look at the Asia market.

In China, the VRF market dropped sharply year-on- year, but the mini-VRFs still keeps rising with 11.8%. The shrinking also occurs in the Southeast Asia market and more investment and training will be needed to cultivate dealers. However, in India, the number of mini-VRF systems is increasing as the cities growing. And the models with heating functions are also improving in the northern India.

In Middle Eastern market, driven by growing population and an increasing number of large city development projects, VRF which are operated under a severe working condition such as high outdoor temperatures surpassing 50°C, is increasing. And in Australia, VRF systems have been increasingly over the past 10 years, but the growth of mini-VRF systems has been sharp attributed to higher demand from urban high-rise condominium projects. Noteworthy is the fact that heat recovery VRFs in Australia account for 30% of the overall market.

The energy recovery ventilator is one of the main parts of VRF system. Effected by the gloomy economic, the growth of market of commercial ERV will slow down. But as people pay more attention on the indoor air quality, the residential ERV market will be expected a fast grow this year.

Will You Pay Attention on the Hotel Ventilation System

When people are on a business trip, travel or visit relatives far away, they may choose hotel for resting. What will they consider before they make the choice, the comfort, the convenience or the price level? Actually, the choice of hotel may affect their feeling or even concern during the whole trip.

With the pursuit of high quality life, the decoration of the hotel or the service star on the hotel website will be not the only selection criteria, consumers now focus more on the physical sensations. And the indoor air quality becomes one of the vital criteria. After all, no one want to stay in the hotel with low ventilation rate and peculiar smell.

Hotels should pay much attention to the indoor air quality, since some harmful substance, like formaldehyde or VOC will release for a long time. Moisture in the washroom or dusk and germ on the furniture will bring high concentration of harmful gas. Such air condition will be hard to attract customers, no matter how splendid the hotel is.
Choose hotel with ventilation system.
The demand of air quality brings a question to us, will you live in the hotel without air ventilation system? Actually, only after we experience the fresh air the ERVs bring to us that will we understand how perfect it feels. Therefore, having a set of air ventilation system is one of the criteria to ensure the high quality of the hotel. The ventilation system can eliminate the dirty air and send the fresh air into indoor after air filtration.
What’s more, different from the central air conditioning, energy recovery ventilation system would be silencer. No one likes hearing noise during their sleep time, so customer may shut down the air conditioning at night, and turn it on next day, this way energy will be wasted. However, ERV system is different, it is in low noise, and it can run over 24 hours a day but will not use too much

Low noise, fresh air, safety and energy saving, the energy recovery ventilation system can bring much more than you imagine.
